Ponchatoula police seized over 450 pounds of packaged marijuana in one of their largest drug busts to date. The operation, which took place on Monday, involved the Ponchatoula Police Department, assisted by the Kenner Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division.
Two individuals were arrested: 44-year-old Calvin Batiste Jr., who has two prior federal drug convictions, and 26-year-old Terry Batiste. The authorities believe the drugs were valued at over $500,000.
Chief Bry Layrisson emphasized the impact of the seizure, stating it would disrupt criminal operations within the community. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are currently available.
